Product Description

The Smoke Density Test Apparatus is a precision-engineered instrument used to determine the smoke generation characteristics of plastics and other materials during combustion, as defined by ASTM D2843 and IS 13360-6-9. Using the optical method, this apparatus measures the percentage of light absorption within a controlled smoke chamber, providing reliable data on smoke density and visibility reduction.

A fixed-dimension specimen is exposed to a controlled propane flame for four minutes. Smoke absorption is recorded every 15 seconds, and a graphical representation of these readings provides the average smoke density, aiding in accurate fire-safety analysis. The integrated EXIT visibility sign allows visual correlation between measured smoke density and practical visibility loss during fire conditions.

The HMI-based model (SD-2843.HMI) enhances the testing experience with touchscreen operation, real-time display of absorption values, voltage stability indication, temperature monitoring, and automatic data logging. The system emits an audio alert at defined 15 seconds intervals, ensuring accurate adherence to test cycles.

Built with a durable aluminium smoke chamber, the apparatus includes a photometric light source, calibrated photometer, ventilation system, metal specimen screen, and burner assembly. Optional accessories like the conditioning chamber and absorption calibrator further support compliance and testing accuracy.
