AC Leakage Current Measurement Test Setup
Scope
Leakage Current Measurement Test Setup specification defines the test equipment, sampling method, and specimen preparation procedure for leakage current measurement designed as per BS EN 50397‐1:2020 for Medium Voltage Covered Conductors (MVCC). This is also known as AC High Voltage Test Set 0-40 kV @50mA
Test Equipment
- AC Source: 48–62 Hz, 0.7U output voltage, output current of 5 mA at least
- Power 1-40 KV 50mA
- True RMS Ammeter: Accuracy ±0.1 mA
- Resistor: 1 kΩ ±5%
- Copper Wire: 2.0 mm ±0.05 mm diameter
- Ethanol for cleaning
Sampling
- Sample taken at least 5 m from cable end
- Length: 1000 ±10 mm
Specimen Preparation
- Clean surface using ethanol
- Immerse in water (20 ±5 °C) for minimum 24 hours
- Dry specimen before testing
- Strip insulation 5 ±1 mm at one end
- Install copper helix electrode at 450 ±5 mm from other end
- Helix length: 100 ±2 mm

- Proper grounding and insulation required
- Avoid contact with live circuits
